Maki-e Technique: Taka Maki-e (Raised Maki-e)
Takamakie 高蒔絵 (Raised Makie) is created by applying metallic powder or charcoal powder to the surface to form the main design. It is then finished by a protective layer of lacquer.
All the drawing on our pens might not be exactly the same since each of them was carefully drawn by our artists. Using the mixture of lacquer and metallic or charcoal powder, the design is painted beautifully on our pens.
Lacquering and polishing
To achieve a shiny surface and keep the drawing protected, our artist uses Nurippanashi technique by coating a transparent layer of urushi lacquer to the pen.
