Our Journey to the motherland of Maki-e - Vietnam
The journey has been made through many countries and places, where we found the most interesting and inspiring arts as well as techniques which might have been forgotten for years. We have been to a lot of traditional villages in China, India and Vietnam. Not only could we discovered the very rare and beautiful art of the world but we also had a chance to meet the real artists who created all the amazinf masterpices
Our Next Stop - Ha Thai - Vietnam
Being known as one of the most famous traditional lacquer villages in Vietnam, Lang Ha Thai is located in the south of Ha Noi capital and Ha Thai lacquer has made its own name for decades not only because of the quality but also because of the creativity and effort of skillful craftsmen who have devoted their whole life to this traditional art.
We found our way to the place that everyone in Ha Thai knows - artist Le Thanh Thai's house. Our first impression was beyond any word. The lacquer maki-e products are much more beautiful than what we have heard of and all of them were hand-crafted even from a very tiny souvenir stone to a big vase.
The trip one more time ensured that this would never be a wrong decision to have Vietnamese Maki-e on our products, especially the maki-e which is made by a very famous and dedicated artist like Mr. Le Thanh Thai.
Wancher Pens with Maki-e Lacquer by artist Le Thanh Thai
The pen body was then polished with urushi lacquer, painted with maki-e and polished again to become such an amazing art form. Each of the steps requires a lot of hard word and effort from the artist as only a very tiny mistake will ruin the whole artwork.
Using Vietnamese traditional images and suggestions from artist Le Thanh Thai, we have applied various art forms to our pen bodies and finally we have these beautiful collections.
